About the data

Where the numbers come from

Where a state's election office publishes monthly reports that this site can read, the figures come straight from those reports, and each one links to its source file. For other states, figures come from posts by @Grassroots20244, who posts one state's party registration totals most days and a national roll-up near the end of each month. When both exist for the same month, the state report is shown and any difference from the post is noted.

How new numbers get added

Scheduled jobs check X for new posts and check state election offices for new reports. They read the numbers and propose them as a change for review. Nothing is published until someone compares the numbers against the source and approves them.

Calculated values

Posts usually include a change for the month and sometimes a change since 2020. From those, the site works out the previous month's totals and the 2020 level. These appear as hollow points or are labeled “Calculated.” When the actual earlier post is added, it replaces the calculated value, and any mismatch is flagged.
